At the Virtual Reality Los Angeles expo in Southern California, AMD showed off its upcoming Dual Fiji based Radeon R9 Fury X2 graphics card.
AMD to launch Dual Fiji based Radeon R9 Fury X2 graphics card
It is projected to be the fastest card among all graphic cards. The card is expected to be much shorter and simpler, than previous AMD dual-GPU cards like
- Radeon R9 295X2
- Radeon HD 7990
- Radeon HD 6990
- Radeon HD 5970
It is also notable that Radeon R9 Fury X2 was featured inside a new prototype system made by Falcon Northwest.
Price of Rift VR headset leaked
During the show, AMD Radeon R9 Fury X2 was featured inside 4-inch wide custom PC. It powered several Virtual Reality demos using the HTC Vive headset. We are familiar that, Virtual Reality is already been supported by almost all graphics vendor and game developers. Rift VR headset was announced by Oculus at CES 2016 for the price of $599. It is expected to reach the market in the month of March. In same time, Virtual Reality has also planned to launch HTC Vive headset for the price of $1500.
VR Head Mounted Display requirements
In order to use HMD’s, the users should have PC with following minimal requirements:
- It should hold NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD R9 290 equivalent or greater.
- It should be powered with Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater
- It should include Memory of 8GB+ RAM
- It should have HDMI 1.3 video output compatibility
- It should include 3x USB 3.0 ports plus 1x USB 2.0 port
- It should run: Windows 7 SP1 64 bit operating system or newer
Specifications of R9 Fury X2
It is mentioned that AMD Radeon R9 Fury X2 will act as one of the best graphic card, to handle VR experiences in a better way.
It is expected that AMD Radeon R9 Fury X2 will have following features and specifications:
- It will hold 2 full Fiji XT chips, each featuring 4096 stream processors that round up to a total of 8192 stream processors.
- It will include a total of 128 raster operation units (64 per GPU)
- It will contain 512 texture mapping units (256 per GPU)
- It will incorporate 4 GB of HBM VRAM on the interposer
- It will include 4096-bit bus interface
- It will feature a TDP of 375W
- It will use liquid cooler as hinted before.
AMD Radeon R9 Fury X2 release date
AMD’s upcoming Fury X dual-GPU flagship is expected to reach the market before the end of Q1 or early Q2 2016 along with the Oculus VR and HTC Vive headsets. The CEO of AMD, Lisa Su mentioned that AMD Radeon R9 Fury X2 can be expected in Autumn of 2015 itself. However to better align it with the Virtual Reality market and to ensure the availability of the Head Mounted Display products such as Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, it is rescheduled to early 2016. But it is of no doubt that AMD Radeon R9 Fury X2 will hit the market soon this year.
